The park is located in the midst of nice homes with beautiful [...]]]> Los Angeles Engagement Photography-On a cloudy day with light drizzle forecasted, I met with Kristyn & Victor for their engagement session at the English Springs Park in Chino Hills, CA.

This is my first time visiting the small but delightful English Springs Park. The park is located in the midst of nice homes with beautiful hilly green grass and a large man-made lake with waterfalls.

We spent about two hours at the park and created the following engagement photos. Kristyn & Victor were very easy to work with and I look to photograph their wedding in August.

The surprise proposal was planned at  Geoffrey’s Malibu, a fabulous oceanfront restaurant with patio dinning option.  The very romantic Dom also planned to have an airplane to fly [...]]]> Los Angeles Wedding Proposal Photography-Christine & Dom are from Albany, NY.  Dom contacted me to photograph his wedding proposal to Christine while they are visiting So Cal.

The surprise proposal was planned at  Geoffrey’s Malibu, a fabulous oceanfront restaurant with patio dinning option.  The very romantic Dom also planned to have an airplane to fly over with “Will you marry me, Christine” sign in tow.

I arrived at the restaurant around 4 PM. I immediately spotted Christine & Dom sitting at the corner of the patio. The staff at Geoffrey’s Malibu was very accommodating finding me a table that had a clear view of the couple yet somewhat hidden.  Below are a few photos from Dom’s proposal.

Afterwards, we walked to a nearby beach and took a few photos of them enjoying the California sunset and each other.

I started the class by giving students a two-hour lecture on basic theory of lighting in photography in order to bring everyone up to the speed.  We covered, speedlight, Quantum lights [...]]]> Los Angeles Photography Workshop-On a beautiful sunny Saturday on December 3, 2011, a small group of students attended my Guerrilla Lighting Workshop in Azusa.

I started the class by giving students a two-hour lecture on basic theory of lighting in photography in order to bring everyone up to the speed.  We covered, speedlight, Quantum lights and Alien Bees.  All lighting systems are wireless and battery-powered.  It was important for students to understand why I have selected these three systems and when to use each.

After the initial lecture session, our wonderful model Christina arrived and we began our “Hand-On” portion of the workshop by setting up various indoor lighting scenarios and modifiers.  In addition, students learned how to work and pose a model.  Christina was a great model and has been very easy to work with.

Around 3PM, we start to pack up all our gear and headed up to my favorite sunset location up on the San Gabriel Mountains.  Again, we set up proper lighting and captured some beautiful sunset images.  Thank you Christina for being a great model.

On a beautiful Sunday, I meet up with several students and two models at my favorite location in the San Gabriel Mountains for our scheduled “8-hour, Hands-On Newbie Photography Workshop”.  At this outdoor rural location, I plan to spend a good deal of time to teach students to spot and select proper lighting in order to create beautiful outdoor portraits

For all students attending this workshop, it is their very first formal on location workshop with an instructor and models. I started out sharing information with students about identify various lighting conditions as well as carefully choose the background.  We start up creating beautiful portraits using these criteria to create some fantastic natural light portraits.

Because it is a newbie [...]]]> On a raining Sunday, I meet up with several students and two models at Balboa Park in San Diego for our scheduled “8-hour Hands-On Newbie Photography Workshop”.  Although it was raining, but I know we were going to work under an open-shade area that is completely sheltered from the elements.

Because it is a newbie workshop, for many of the students it is there first photograph workshop ever. I want to spend a significant amount to time helping the students to identify proper background and spot the ever so important perfect directional lighting for our portraits.  I share my experience of using on-camera flash to add details to the shadow side of the face as well spending sometime using one simple umbrella as our only additional lighting source.

It just to show even in a less-than-ideal raining day, with proper understanding of the lighting, one can still create some wonderful images.

One week before the wedding, all of us were very concerned about the weather.  It forecasted for rain the entire weekend.  We [...]]]> Los Angeles & Orange County Yacht Wedding-Mary and Michael have booked their wedding ceremony on a beautiful yacht, White Lighting, in Newport Beach.  This was an intimate wedding for close families and friends.

One week before the wedding, all of us were very concerned about the weather.  It forecasted for rain the entire weekend.  We were very fortunate that the weather forecast changed to sunny 24-hour before the wedding. In fact, we were blessed with beautiful, dramatic clouds during the wedding.  I am so glad that I was able to capture these romantic images with spectacular skies for May and Michael.

I want to thank my assistant, Rose for helping me during the wedding.  Here are a few of my favorites from the wedding, enjoy!
