On Sunday, August 23, 2009, I had the pleasure teaching another Guerrilla Lighting Workshop for 12 enthusiastic photographers as part of my Los Angeles Photography Seminars. We were very fortunately to have Clara, a wonderful aspiring model and Miriam, an awesome make up artist with Mary Kay Cosmetics, to join us for the hand-on workshop. Here are few images from the workshop and I want to thank Dan Kirksey for providing the behind-the-scene shots. Also, many thanks to my assistants, Patrick and Vivian. You guys are awesome!

Below is a candid photo I took of Vivian (my assistant). Does she look every bit like a model?

Hi Ben. I had a great time at the seminar. The content was easy to grasp, but comprehensive enough to make it very worthwhile. I already owned one of the Apollo softboxes and some umbrellas, but have been practicing like mad this week to master the stuff you showed us and have another softbox on order. The seminar and practice have already paid off and I can see the results. Thanks again!
Ben,
It was a great time, and I was impressed with your presentation and the amount of info covered. I’m glad I took the leap and signed up.
The only real suggestions I’d have would be about pacing and trying to get in more exercises, and in letting the students assist in light set-ups.
Thanks for a good day and for helping me along on my photographic journey.
P.S. Have you tried anything in the RadioPoppers line? The new JrX stuff comes out today, and one of the features is the ability to remotely dial flash power (including for Alien Bees) from the master unit on-camera. It was something that came up in discussion as we watched your assistants constantly move lights up and down for adjustments.
Thanks, Jake for your comments.
Gary, I will have to look into the Radio Poppers. It sounds very promising.
Hi Ben,
I wanted to say thank you for the wealth of information that I received from attending your class Guerrilla Lighting Workshop! What an amazing class! I had traveled to Azusa from San Diego to attend the class and it was definitely worth it!
I am a visual learner and the fact that most of the class is a hands on learning environment makes it so valuable. Thank you for taking the time to show us each and every step when you are dialing in the lights. It was great to see the before and afters of just making minor changes would change the results of your photographs.
I have posted the photos I took from your class on http://www.kristakirksey.com when you get a chance you can look at them.
Thank you for helping me better my skills!
